Know of a safer, non- or low-chlorine pool in the UK? Please post it here.
There are two in Muswell Hill North London - The Lab (I think this one's ozone) and The Manor.
Also 1 in Soho Central London - The Third Space
Swim4Tri in Canary Wharf use poolsan instead of chlorine.
Brockwell lido doesnt have any in the spa pool and when I asked I was told the big outdoor pool should be chlorine free this year. they use poolsan system
Try the health club at the Landmark hotel on Marylebone Road who use poolsan in the pool and jacuzzi. Membership not cheap but its a nice club, handy if you work in Marylebone and worth it just for the pool
I use the health club at one aldwych hotel in covent garden for the swimming as they have a chlorine free pool, poolsan treatment used
try the living well club at the london hilton metroploe - pool san system. I was on holiday at the hilton in cyprus in the summer and they have the same so i was pleased when this one opened
Living well health clubs use a mineral system called poolssan not chlorine I belong to the birmingham club which doesn't have chlorine and has a great pool and spa.apparently some other living wells still use chlorine but not sure which ones so worth checking locally
The Lansdowne Club has changed from chlorine to pool san - big improvement. See www.lansdowneclub.com. Also I know the health club at Le Meridien hotel just up the road in Piccadilly uses pool san too so thats another pool for people to try who don't want to swim in chlorine
Membership Club & Spa. Main swimming pool ozone treated, hydrotherapy pool UV treated
Markets Sports Club, Shoreditch, London - the 25m pool is treated with poolsan and has no chlorine in at all
Old Hall Country Club in Chester has a chlorine free poolsan pool
I train for triathlons at Swimshack Swim Studio, Loughborough - a pool with no chlorine at all. They use poolsan instead. They are at www.swimshack.co.uk
Swim Solutions based in Stanwell, West London (www.swimsolutions.co.uk) have a totally chlorine free Poolsan pool for adult and children's swimming lessons
Jesmond Pool based in Newcastle upon Tyne is open to the public (and community managed) and has a UV treatment system http://www.jesmondpool.co.uk/default.asp
The Laboratory, Health Club & Spa, Muswell Hill in North London. It uses a UV system, I think, with a trace level of chlorine in it.
No chlorine whatsoever and loving it!! - the Marlow Health Club in Marlow have a 20m Poolsan pool
I have no connection with any of these. The basic theme: (virtually) no public sector / public pools
in Central London are chlorine free yet.
1) The City Point Club London EC2Y 9AW
<http://www.thecitypointclub.co.uk/home/the_club/swimming_pool.aspx>
— reports a 20m ozone treated pool.
Member subscriptions (seem lower than I recall them being years ago), near Barbican. Inspected
but not yet tried it.
2) Market Sports Health & Fitness, 1-6 Bateman's Row, London EC2A 3HH
<www.marketsports.co.uk>
— 25m pool, cleaned by PoolSan, no chlorine.
3) When I used to go there about 20 years ago the Caledonian Road, N1 / Cally Road Pool
was, IIRC, ozone treated. Don't know now, phone them and find out.
4) The Third Space, 13 Shirwood St., Soho, London W1
<http://www.thethirdspace.com/home/fitness/facilities/swimming_pool.aspx>
— reports a 20m ozone-treated pool.
5) The Circle Spa, Queen Elizabeth St., SE1: <http://www.thecirclespa.com/whatweoffer.html>
reports a 17m swimming pool which a description elsewhere stated was ozone treated.
Check with them.
6) Swiss Cottage Leisure Centre: Adelaide Road London NW3 3NF
— a remark posted on another site says they use ozone. Call them and find out.
7) as noted elsewhere here and a bit further out is The Laboratory, The Avenue, Muswell Hill,
N10 2QE which professes to have a 25m x 12m pool treated by UV light [and ozone].
<http://www.labspa.co.uk/MUSWELLHILL.html>
Doesn't seem to be very near any Tube station though.
8) Virgin Active Health Clubs
<http://www.virginactive.co.uk/Content/Facilities/Pool.aspx>
— "All our pools are heated, and treated with ozone, UV or chlorine… pool facilities vary per club,
so please contact your nearest club for details."
You could try here also but as they say themselves in their FAQ, only a tiny percentage of listings
mention ozone:
<http://www.swimmersguide.com/>
Last, the Oasis at 32 Endell Street WC2H 9AG is not listed as UV or ozone but it does have an
outdoor pool and when I used to go there it was always much more pleasant than swimming
indoors as the chlorine fog seemed better dissipated. In like manner, try searching for Lidos -
the London Fields one is reputedly heated.
Ozone treated pools will also use *some* chlorine it is said. PoolSan looking the current
best alternative?
